Geoff Hyde

Mr. Geoff Hyde M.Sc. (Tourism Planning/Development Economics), B.A. (Leisure Planning) is the Managing Director and Principal Consultant of STIL and has 28 years of work experience as a Tourism Development Planner, Project Manager, Technical Adviser and Business Consultant. He has extensive experience working with local indigenous communities, Government department’s, NGO’s and commercial tourism operators and developers throughout the South Pacific, Australia, the Caribbean, Africa, Southeast Asia and Europe. He has advised governments, international development agencies, private companies and SME businesses in the planning, development, investment, marketing and training for tourism enterprises, organisations and destinations. His background includes work as a specialist tourism sector adviser, funded through the Commonwealth Secretariat, as Tourism Investment Adviser in Tonga 2001 to 2003, Tourism Marketing and Planning Adviser in St. Vincent and the Grenadines 1996 to 1998 and Tourism Development Adviser in Samoa 1991 to 1995. He has completed 150 project assignments in 17 countries, particularly developing island countries, including assignments for the World Bank, ADB, UNWTO, AusAID, NZAID and the European Union. Geoff has been a specialist lecturer in tourism studies at four universities in Australia and at the University of the South Pacific campus in Tonga, and is the co-author of three tourism textbooks. He currently lectures in the MBA program at the University of Fiji. He is a registered consultant with the Fiji Department of Environment and a member of the International Ecotourism Society.
